With a population of approximately 160,000, the Town of Ajax is one of the fastest-growing areas in Ontario. There are hundreds of new homes built here every year, and it’s easy to see why. In fact, the Town of Ajax is one of our favourite places in the GTA!
The Background
In the Durham Region, just 25 kilometers east of Toronto, sits the Town of Ajax. It’s just west of Whitby and east of Pickering. This once-small town was named after a Royal Navy cruiser known as the HMS Ajax, and incorporated in 1955. Of course, a lot has changed since then.
As Toronto’s population has exploded, the Town of Ajax has grown by leaps and bounds. Today, many locals travel between the two areas for work every day. With its strong local economy, relaxed pace of life, and family-friendly feel, it’s no wonder so many new residents are moving to the region.
General Character
Modern-day Ajax is a highly diverse place to live. That comes through in the town’s mix of cultures, cuisines, and retail options. In many ways, being here is like living in Toronto, a multicultural city that welcomes new residents from around the globe.
The Demand
In recent years, many young Torontonians have been moving out of the city and into the surrounding towns and suburbs. The Town of Ajax has been a prime destination. With its promise of more space for less money, this conveniently located enclave is attracting its fair share of millennials. That’s to be expected, since its well-established neighbourhoods, great schools, and beautiful parks make it an ideal place to put down roots.
